From Ira Glass, I learned that every story needs two things: an anecdote that moves it forward and a moment of reflection that explains why it matters. He also reminded me that storytelling takes practice\u2014you might not be great at it right away, and that\u2019s okay.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When I listened to <em>Modern Love<\/em>, I saw how those ideas come to life in real audio stories. The episode <em>\u201cHow to Stop Asking \u2018Are You Mad at Me?\u2019\u201d<\/em> used music, pacing, and tone to express emotion in ways that words alone couldn\u2019t. The background piano, gentle pauses, and quiet moments all made me feel the storyteller\u2019s vulnerability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What was harder than I thought\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The hardest part was listening closely and describing sound. I\u2019m used to multitasking when I listen to podcasts, but this time I had to pay full attention. It was also tricky to explain how music or silence made me feel without overcomplicating it. Describing emotion through sound takes practice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What was easier\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Once I started writing, the reflection part came naturally. The stories were so strong that I had a lot to say about them. It also helped that Ira Glass explained storytelling in a clear and honest way. It made it easier to connect what I heard in <em>Modern Love<\/em> to what I learned from him.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What drove me crazy\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Editing my thoughts into short paragraphs was frustrating at first. I had a lot of notes and had to cut them down, just like Ira Glass said storytellers do. I also kept replaying parts of the audio to catch small sound details, which took time but helped me notice things I missed at first.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What I enjoyed the most\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I really enjoyed how personal audio storytelling can feel. When someone speaks directly into a microphone, it feels like they\u2019re talking just to you. I also liked realizing how silence can be powerful. It gives listeners time to think and feel. This project made me appreciate how much effort goes into producing even a short piece of audio.
